Fortune Candle


A celebration of Chinese porcelain, this candle features hand illustrations of lanterns decorated with the symbol of good fortune,  (pronounced fu). Topped with a beautiful bamboo lid and made from creamy coconut soy wax. 

Scent Notes

  • Satsuma - a variety of mandarin oranges popularized by the Satsuma region of Japan, from which this fruit was first exported to the West from. Oranges are a symbol of good fortune in Chinese culture. Gifting oranges are considered an auspicious gesture, as it represents the blessing of happiness and prosperity. The pronunciation of orange in Mandarin sounds similar to the word luck 吉 (ji), which is why oranges are considered a lucky fruit!
  • Ylang Ylang - a yellow, star-shaped flower with a rich floral aroma similar to jasmine. It's often used in aromatherapy to boost mood and relieve stress. The flowers are native to areas like India, Phillippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The name comes from the Tagalog word "ilang," which means wilderness. 

Fun Facts

  • Inspired by Chinese porcelain (qinghua, 青花) this candle features the signature blue and white colors that were developed in the Tang Dynasty. The blue pigment came from the use of cobalt oxide while the porcelain was made from white kaolin clay. Beautiful scenery and patterns were hand painted on each piece by brush.
  • The lanterns featured in the illustration symbolize good fortune. Invented in the Han Dynasty, paper lanterns were displayed to wish for a better and brighter future. Their circular shape symbolizes togetherness and they're usually decorated with elaborate designs or embellishments. Lanterns are popular during special events like the Lantern Festival, which marks the end of the Chinese New Year. 
  • The candle labels were illustrated by a Taiwanese-American female artist in honour of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage, which is celebrated in the month of May.
